THE LONG-abandoned Nigerian Air Force (NAF) housing projects has been completed by Rivers State Governor at the Port Harcourt NAF Base in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Initially launched in 2017, the project was revived and expanded under Fubara ’s administration to improve military personnel welfare and enhance operational efficiency.

During the inauguration ceremony on Monday, Governor Fubara disclosed that the project cost was revised from ₦212 million to ₦454 million to meet updated standards.

The completed project includes two blocks of 12 flats, each designed as two-bedroom NAF prototype residential buildings.

He emphasised the significance of supporting the military, describing the project as a vital partnership between the state government and security agencies to combat crime and protect residents’ lives and property.

He also pledged continued support for the 115 Special Operations Group Base and other security units, including efforts to thwart oil theft and protect national assets.

Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, commended the Rivers State Government for its dedication to improving the welfare of NAF personnel.

He noted that the project would enhance the quality of life for officers and their families while fostering a secure and stable environment in the state.

Air Commodore Ali H. Idris, Commander of the 115 Special Operations Group, applauded Governor Fubara’s leadership and commitment to security.

Similarly, the state’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Rowland Obed-Whyte, described the initiative as a monumental achievement.

Onyeama N.D., representing the contracting firm Tee Gay and Associates, thanked the governor for entrusting them with the project, reaffirming their dedication to delivering quality work.

The housing project is expected to strengthen collaboration between the Rivers State Government and the Nigerian Air Force, boosting security and economic stability in the region.
