JAMB Shifts UTME Registration, Cites Law Programme Suspension, CBT Centre Issues

THE REGISTRATION process for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been rescheduled, shifting from its initial start date of Friday, 31 January 2025, to Monday, 3 February 2025.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced the change, citing the need for critical adjustments in its registration process.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, explained that the revision aligns with recent decisions by the Council for Legal Education (CLE), which led to the suspension of certain law programmes at select universities.

The Board said the adjustments are necessary to ensure compliance with CLE’s directives and to prevent disruptions for prospective candidates.

JAMB also disclosed that a review of some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres revealed instances where operators deployed deceptive facilities to secure approval.

This discovery prompted further scrutiny, resulting in the need to disapprove such centres and refine the registration process.

JAMB also acknowledged the inconvenience the changes may cause but assured stakeholders and applicants that the additional time would allow for a smoother and more efficient registration process.

The Board further urged all prospective candidates to remain patient while the necessary corrections are implemented.

Law Programmes Suspended in Selected Universities

On Thursday, JAMB reaffirmed that it would not process admissions for law programmes in universities where the Council for Legal Education (CLE) has suspended their Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The affected universities include:

▪️Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State
▪️Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
▪️Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State
▪️Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
▪️Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
▪️Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
▪️Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
▪️Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State

Additionally, the Board confirmed that the Nigerian Police Academy’s suspension would extend into the 2026/2027 academic session.

JAMB also reassured candidates intending to register for the 2025 UTME that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent any administrative lapses.

The Board urged applicants to use official channels for updates and avoid misinformation regarding the changes.
